Job summary

WSP USA is seeking On-Call Emergency Managers – Safety to support disaster response, recovery and ongoing safety programs. The role involves leading Emergency Management teams, coordinating deployments to sites nationwide and ensuring worksite safety and regulatory compliance.

Cadre members must be flexible for 24-48 hour deployments and can work long hours during active assignments. Ideal candidates hold a relevant degree, OSHA 30 or higher, multiple certifications, and 5+ years in leadership

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Safety or Emergency Management or related field.
• Minimum 5–7 years in a Safety or Emergency Management leadership role.
• Minimum 5 years of cumulative safety experience on projects similar in size and complexity.
• 24 hours of formal SOH-related training within the past 5 years; maintain 8 hours annually.
• OSHA 30 Construction or General Industry certification required.

Responsibilities

• Lead Emergency Management team, serving clients nationwide and in US territories.
• Manage Emergency Operations Center and/or Field Staging Area operations.
• Ensure worksites are safe and compliant with regulations.
• Attend periodic trainings to maintain deployment eligibility.
• Support Emergency Management Project Management functions.
• Uphold ethical decision-making regarding company funds and conduct.

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search forOn-Call Emergency Managers – Safety.Since the actual work location will be the deployment site(s), these positions have the potential to report out of any WSP USA office, which could include Boston, MA; Jacksonville, FL; Tallahassee, FL; Orlando, FL; Tampa, FL; Miami, FL; Birmingham, AL; New Orleans, LA; Raleigh, NC; Columbia, SC; Dallas, TX; or Houston, TX.

Emergency management cadre positions are on-call and assignments are on an as-needed basis. Cadre members are not eligible for benefits.

Cadre members are asked for a 30 day commitment; availability to deploy with little to no advance notice (typically within 24-48 hours); and during deployments, ability to potentially work 8-12 hours/day; 7 days/week.

Your Impact

• Lead Emergency Management team, providing services to clients preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters nationwide and in US territories.
• Manage Emergency Operations Center and/or Field Staging Area operations prior to, during, and post-disaster.
• Responsible for ensuring that worksites are safe for workers and comply with applicable regulations.
• Attend periodic training throughout the year to maintain deployment eligibility.
• Support Emergency Management Project Management functions.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or similar/related concentration, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5-7 years in a Safety or Emergency Management Leadership role (Response, Recovery or related), or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of cumulative safety experience, within the last 10 years, managing or implementing a SOH program on projects similar in industry type, size, and complexity as the project described in the contract scope of work.
• 24 hours of documented formal classroom or online SOH-related training within the past 5 years and must maintain competency by taking 8 hours every year for the duration of the contract.
• Broad knowledge of Safety and Emergency Management principles, methods and techniques. OSHA 30 Construction, General Industry or higher OSHA certification (DOL Wallet Card Required after 90 Days of Course Completion).
• Intermediate computer experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe and mobile applications.
• Travel Required - Must be able to deploy to disaster area, with little or no advance notice (typically within 24-48 hours) and potentially for long durations.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Safety or Emergency Management (or related field).
• Current First Aid, CPR/AED Certification with hands on component.
• Current Bloodborne Pathogens Certification.
• HAZWOPER 40 Hour Certification with hands on component.
• EM 385-1-1 training and Certification.
• Experience of USACE SSHO (Site Safety and Health Officer).
• BCSP Certification such as CHST, ASP, CSP or equivalent.
• FEMA Emergency Management Institute Independent Study Courses - (IS-100/102/200/700/800/815).
• Previous experience leading and managing assigned safety personnel in a high tempo hazardous field environment 7 days a week.
• Experience in a Field Staging Areas, State EOC (Emergency Operations Center) or related environment.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $40.00 - $45.00/hour
