Job summary

SBM is seeking a Custodian in Menlo Park, CA to maintain cleanliness and sanitation. The role covers janitorial duties, proper handling of hazardous waste, and operating cleaning equipment.

On-call shifts include evening and late afternoon hours with a pay rate of $19–$20 per hour. Candidates should be able to work in a team, follow safety protocols, and communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.

Qualifications

• No specific education requirement; 3–6 months training or experience preferred, or equivalent.
• May require valid driver’s license and safety/task training certification.
• May require forklift certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform janitorial duties as assigned.
• Follow daily schedule and complete listed duties.
• Handle Hazardous Waste tasks: collection, classification, sorting, storage, shipping, labeling, recycling, packaging.
• Operate motorized cleaning equipment.
• Maintain daily upkeep of assigned area.
• Report incidents and hazards to supervisor.
• Comply with safety rules, policies and procedures.
• Work in a team with other staff; take direction.
• Fulfill shift coverage and punch-list tasks as needed.
• Use proper personal protective equipment.
• Present professional appearance and conduct.
• Understand customer service concepts and reporting systems.

Job Overview

The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of all areas assigned.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform janitorial duties
• Perform all duties listed on the daily schedule
• Perform Hazardous Waste responsibilities including collecting, classifying, sorting, storing, shipping and receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, packaging of special and hazardous waste.
• Operate motorized cleaning equipment
• Maintain daily upkeep of assigned area
• Report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor
• Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures
• Stop at risk behavior of others and self
• Perform work assignments in a team with other employees
• Perform repetitive tasks
• Maintain clean work area
• Follow all protocols, company procedures, policies, and rules
• Take direction and respond to supervision
• Talk with lead, supervisor, co-workers, managers, and customers in a professional manner
• Fill in during staff shortage
• Support shift lead in completing punch-list items
• Use proper personal protective equipment
• Present a professional appearance and conduct
• Understand customer service and satisfaction
• Understand reporting systems, and of the environment

Qualification

• Education and/ or Experience: No specific education requirement, 3-6 months training or experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: May be required to have a valid driver’s license. Completed all safety and task training certification. May be required to be forklift certified.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bilingual a plus Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents Strong verbal and written communication skills Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment and willing to share with team Knowledge of the upkeep and care of the cleaning equipment Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
