Available to work from either 5 am–1:30 pm or 10:30 am–7 pm. Pay rate is $18 per hour.

The On‑Call Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appealing meals and snacks for residents of a senior living community. This position provides coverage for planned and unplanned staffing needs, including employee absences, vacations, leaves of absence, and call‑offs. The On‑Call Cook ensures meals are prepared in accordance with menu plans, resident dietary requirements, food safety regulations, and company standards while promoting a positive dining experience for residents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Food Preparation and Service
  • Prepare and cook meals, snacks, and beverages according to approved menus, recipes, and portion guidelines.
  • Ensure meals are served on time and at proper temperatures.
  • Follow physician‑ordered diets, texture modifications, and special dietary restrictions.
  • Monitor food quality, appearance, and taste to ensure resident satisfaction.
  • Assist with meal service and accommodate reasonable resident requests when appropriate.
  • Maintain a welcoming and resident‑focused dining experience.
Kitchen Operations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment.
  • Follow all local, state, and federal food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Properly label, date, store, and rotate food items using First In, First Out (FIFO) procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas.
  • Ensure proper operation and safe use of kitchen equipment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, and supply shortages promptly.
Resident Care and Teamwork
  • Demonstrate respect, patience, and professionalism when interacting with residents, families, and staff.
  • Communicate effectively with caregivers, medication technicians, management, and other team members regarding resident dietary needs.
  • Support community events, special meals, and holiday celebrations as needed.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
Compliance and Safety
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to infection control practices and workplace safety standards.
  • Participate in required training and meetings.
  • Respond appropriately during emergencies according to facility procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Certificate in food preparation and/or culinary degree, preferred.
  • Prior experience working in food service, preferred.
  • Each employee must have a physical examination and tuberculin test performed by a physician. The tests are to be completed with results within seven (7) days after hire, unless regulations stipulate completion before employment. If the exams are not completed within this timeframe, the employee will be placed on suspension until they are completed.
  • The Department of Social Services (DSS) licensing agency requires that LiveScan be completed on criminal convictions and be submitted for the purpose of conducting a criminal record review. The DDS will issue an approval or denial according to the criminal clearance reports. Approval must be obtained in order to retain employment.
  • All employees are required to complete a drug screening.
  • All employees must keep their FIRST‑AID certification current.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Works in a senior living community, including Assisted Living and Memory Care environments.
  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, cleaning products, and kitchen equipment.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts based on operational needs.
BODY POSITIONING

Spend time bending, twisting or lifting to 50 pounds, keeping or regaining balance, making repetitive motions, standing, walking and running and using your hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools.
