Job summary

Washoe County School District is seeking an On-Call Childcare Provider for RiSE Academy for Adult Achievement, supporting supervision and care for children during class times.

Positions are on-call, part-time, pay $16.00 per hour, with morning and evening shifts, and require a high school diploma or six months of preschool/school-age youth experience; CPR certification is preferred or obtainable.

CHILDCARE PROVIDER
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Childcare providers support the supervision and care the children of RISE students-- - including those that may, or many are not receiving Special Education services at various school sites and community locations. These services are provided to students during their classes at RISE either in the morning (9:30-12:00) or the evening (6:00-8:30).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead engaging activities for children.
  • Prepare the childcare room or classroom with appropriate materials.
  • Supervise children in various settings including:
  • Classrooms
  • Enforce school rules and maintain discipline in a fair and positive manner.
  • Serve as a role model for good sportsmanship and leadership.
  • Develop rapport with children and families to foster a supportive environment.
  • Assist children with meals and refreshments (e.g., breakfast/dinner).
  • Sanitize toys, play equipment, and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Support children in using the restroom.
  • Change diapers of infants.
Inclusive Support for Students with Special Needs
  • Engage with all students, including those receiving Special Education services.
  • Support students with cognitive, physical, or emotional/behavioral disabilities (ages 6 months - 12 years of age).
  • Assist students based on their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Modify activities to ensure accessibility and participation for all children.
  • Provide emergency and first aid care as needed.
  • Be physically capable of moving students weighing 50-80 pounds.
Behavioral and Safety Management
  • Implement non-violent behavioral intervention procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure the safety and hygiene of children in care.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
Communication and Problem Solving
  • Communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Analyze situations accurately and take appropriate action.
  • Interpret and explain district policies and procedures as they relate to the role.
Event and Curriculum Support (e.g., University of Nevada, Reno Events)
  • Organize and manage learning center supplies.
  • Prepare and facilitate developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum.
  • Create a learning environment that supports multiple learning styles.
  • Facilitate learning centers that encourage exploration and discovery.
  • Manage classroom behavior and implement interventions when necessary.
Professional Development
  • Participate in district training programs as requested.
  • Stay current with best practices in childcare and behavioral support.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience : Any experience equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

  • A high school diploma is desirable.

AND

  • A minimum of six (6) months of experience working with pre-school and school-age youth, is desirable. Or any experience that would demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities.
Licenses/Certificates

Possession of, or ability to obtain a CPR Certification.

Special Considerations

This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include morning or evening hours. This is an on-call position, working at RISE Academy for Adult Achievement during regular school hours, evening hours as well as potential weekends.

Childcare would be provided for children from age 6 months through middle school.

Additional Job Information

Applications are taken on an on-going basis. As positions become available, applications will be reviewed by administrators and interviews/hiring will take place. Part-time WCSD employees may be considered for the On-Call Childcare Provider position not to exceed 40 hours per week. On-Call and Temporary positions do not qualify for benefits.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.

Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.

The job offer is conditional until a report is returned from the FBI and Nevada Department of Public Safety that meets the standards of WCSD for employment purposes.
