Job summary

Viterbo University is seeking an On-Call Campus Safety & Event Officer to protect students, staff, guests, and property on the La Crosse campus. This casual, as-needed, hourly role supports safety during events and daily campus operations.

The position requires a high school diploma (or equivalent), prior security experience preferred, and CPR/AED certifications at appointment or within 6 months. Must be willing to work overtime, holidays, and flexible hours.

Qualifications

• CPR/AED certifications required or able to obtain within 6 months of appointment.
• Prior experience in security field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform foot patrol in campus facilities and on campus grounds to prevent crime and protect people and property.
• Respond to complaints and disturbances to prevent dangerous situations on campus.
• Investigate incidents, collect evidence, interview witnesses, and write incident reports.
• Identify hazards and report them to the Director of Campus Safety.
• Monitor surveillance and alarm systems.
• Assist in preparing reports and maintaining security records.
• Coordinate with outside emergency services and law enforcement.
• Conduct routine inspections of safety equipment (AEDs, alarms, extinguishers).
• Carry out other duties as assigned and work holidays or during vacations as needed.

Viterbo is seeking a On-Call Campus Safety & Event Officer to help protect campus community members, guests, and property; prevent crime and disorder; identify and report safety and security hazards; and confirms that emergency equipment is in working order. Provide Safety and Security during events on Campus that include but are not limited to Bright Star Performances. This is a casual, as-needed, on-call, hourly, position.

Responsibilities

• Perform foot patrol in campus facilities and on campus grounds for general purposes of crime prevention and security; provide protection of university students, employees, guests and property.
• Respond to and follow up on complaints, disturbances, and or requests to prevent potentially dangerous situations from occurring on campus property.
• Investigate incidents and violations, collect evidence, interview witnesses, and write incident reports.
• Identify hazards to safety and security; report them to the Director of Campus Safety.
• Monitor surveillance system, fire alarm system, and other emergency notification systems.
• Assist in preparing administrative and operational reports and maintaining files of no contact, no trespassing, protection and restraining orders.
• Act as a liaison to outside emergency services and law enforcement agencies. Assist with maintaining organized and effective security operations in the Campus Safety Office and the Security Outpost Office.
• Conduct and document routine inspections of AEDs, Code Blue emergency phones, elevator emergency phones, fire extinguishers, etc.
• Carry out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned.
• Will be required to work holidays and cover vacations as needed.

OSHA Category: Category I - All Employees in this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.

Environmental Conditions: Subject to outside environmental conditions. Reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure blood and/or other materials that could transmit infectious diseases. Subject to hazards.

Position requires walking, bending, and lifting 25-50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent preferred
• Prior experience in security field preferred
• Must possess CPR/AED certifications at time of appointment or the ability to obtain such certifications within 6 months of appointment and maintain such certification for the duration of employment.
