Job summary

Mississippi Department of Employment Security seeks a Maintenance Helper to assist technicians in repairing and maintaining machinery and equipment. You will perform routine tasks such as oiling, filtering, inspecting belts and tires, and keeping tools and work areas organized.

• Repair flats on various vehicles and equipment; replace tires.
• Maintain a clean work area, tools, and equipment.
• Perform other routine duties as assigned.

SUMMARY

Assists Maintenance Mechanics and Tire Technician in repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Change oil and grease all city vehicles and equipment
• Place all related filters: oil, fuel, hydraulic, coolant, transmission, air and breather.
• Inspect belts and hoses
• Inspect front suspension components.
• Inspect rear suspension components
• Inspect wheels and tires
• Check air pressure
• Repair flats on various vehicles and equipment
• Replace tires on all vehicles
• Clean work area, tools, and equipment. Perform other routine duties.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
