Job summary

Gulf Island is seeking an I&E Technician to support the Pressurized Welding Enclosure (PWE) Control System on offshore projects. You will install, calibrate, commission, test and operate the Spark PWE Monitoring and Control System, ensuring reliability and safe operation in live environments.

Responsibilities include Firewatch duties, scaffolding support, and maintaining equipment. A High School Diploma and PLC/DCS experience are required, along with the ability to pass pre-employment screens.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years PLC/DCS based control systems experience
• Electrical / process control / automation experience
• Knowledge of pneumatic instrumentation
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical
• Must be able to pass a background check

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Firewatch / PWE Attendant by preparing hot work areas through removing flammables and hazards from hot work areas
• Safely adhere to Spark, GIS, client and regulatory safety policies and procedures
• Report defective PWE / FRC equipment and materials to PWE Supervisor
• Support crafts with manual transfer of PWE / FRC / Scaffolding / Welding materials and equipment
• Assist with installation of Scaffolding in accordance with Gulf Island scaffold safety program
• Install, calibrate, commission, function test, and operate the Spark PWE Monitoring and Control System
• Maintain and repair the Spark PWE Monitoring and Control System, associated components and end devices
• Install Spark PWE Panels and FR Barriers in accordance with Spark PWE Procedures
• Maintain diligence during hot work to prevent exposure to fire / leak-path
• Assist in rigging activities to move heavy equipment through confined spaces
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Job description

Main Purpose

The Pressurized Welding Enclosure (PWE) Control System Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician installs, manages and maintains the Spark PWE Monitoring and Control System, including the installation of Spark PWEs.

Essential Functions

• Serve as a Firewatch / PWE Attendant by preparing hot work areas through removing flammables and hazards from the hot work area(s), installing FR barriers in all line-of-fire locations, ensuring all Fire Fighting Equipment (FFE) is on-site, accessible and service ready
• Serve as a safety ambassador by working safely and adhering to all Spark, GIS, client and regulatory safety policies and procedures
• Report all defective PWE / Flame Resistant Clothing (FRC) equipment and materials (enclosure panels, leads and extension cords, gas detectors etc.) to the PWE Supervisor
• Support all crafts with manual transfer of PWE / FRC / Scaffolding / Welding materials and equipment to worksites
• Assist with the installation of Scaffolding in accordance with the Gulf Island scaffold safety program
• Install, calibrate, commission, function test, and operate the Spark PWE Monitoring and Control System in accordance with Spark PWE Procedures
• Maintain and repair the Spark PWE Monitoring and Control System, associated components and end devices
• Install Spark PWE Panels and FR Barriers in accordance with Spark PWE Procedures
• Maintain diligence during hot work to prevent exposure to fire / leak-path
• Assist in rigging activities as assigned to control the movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, beam clamps, cable / nylon slings and other certified lifting equipment
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years experience in Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) / Distributed Control System (DCS) based Control Systems
• Previous experience in electrical /process control / automation
• Knowledge of pneumatic instrumentation
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical
• Must be able to pass a background check

Environmental Conditions

80% to 90% of the work activities are performed outdoors. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet, and dry conditions, dust, mud, etc. They may also be exposed to fumes (Paint, paint thinners, diesel, /or gas, etc.)
