Job summary

HORNBECK OFFSHORE® is seeking a Mechanical Technician to troubleshoot and maintain our fleet’s vessel mechanical systems, including diesel engines and propulsion components.

You will work with the Lead Mechanical Technician to schedule repairs, coordinate with vendors, and ensure adherence to USCG and OSHA safety protocols. Travel internationally may be required to support operations and training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of mechanical repair experience or training; or equivalent combination.
  • CAT diesel engine repair experience and underwater gear experience required.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Must possess a valid US driver’s license, insurance, and TWIC card.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and board vessels to understand role.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Lead Mechanical Technician to safely repair and maintain vessel mechanical equipment.
  • Schedules troubleshooting and repair with Operations Management and vessel crews.
  • Coordinates with 3rd party vendors to verify repairs meet company standards.
  • Manages parts, tools, equipment, and supplies for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Instructs vessel crews on basic troubleshooting and repair procedures.
  • Identifies parts to replace, opens work orders, and places orders for parts or services.
  • Interprets drawings and schematics to determine repair parts and methods.
  • Ensures tasks follow USCG and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Creates Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for jobs performed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
