Job summary

Cincinnati Children's is seeking a Security Officer at the Liberty Campus to respond to patient, parent, visitor and staff concerns, investigate routine complaints, monitor traffic, badge visitors, escort individuals, and support loss prevention and safety.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 3+ years of related experience, a valid driver's license, and completion of TCI training within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Investigation - Respond to, investigate, and solve routine complaints reported by patients, parents, visitors and employees; coordinate with expert resources as needed.
  • Monitor - Direct traffic, control parking, and ensure proper visitor badging; assist with access control across the campus.
  • Patrol - Patrol buildings and grounds by vehicle, foot, and bike; report safety hazards and ensure compliance with codes and safety policies.
  • Visitor Management - Enforce visitor policy and badge access for approved visitors and patients.
  • Respond - Emergency response to distress calls and codes; assist clinical staff as required; annual recertification in physical restraint training.

Primary Location Liberty Campus Department Liberty Protective Services Shift Day (United States of America) Schedule Full time Weekly Hours 40 FTE 1 Employee Status Regular *Expected Starting Pay Range $18.33 - $22.25 *Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on‑call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Investigation - Respond to, investigate, and problem solve routine complaints reported by patients, parents, visitors and employees. Engage expert resources in order to timely address patient, parent, visitor and employee concerns.

  • Monitor - Direct traffic within Cincinnati Children's and control parking of all patients, parents, visitors and employees. Escort patients, parents, visitors and employees to and from parking areas as needed. Control access for the entire Medical Center and perform all necessary locking and unlocking needs within the various buildings and grounds.

  • Patrol - Patrol buildings and grounds by way of motor vehicle, foot, and bike patrol. Ensure only authorized personnel are admitted onto hospital premises. Responsible for ensuring visitor, staff and patients are properly badged prior to entering/exiting elevators. Report safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections; look for violations of the Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA and Cincinnati Fire Code safety violations. Provide way-finding and general assistance for patients and visitors during routine security duties. Individual must have the ability to relate to customers, provide clear communications in a courteous, professional manner, and help whenever necessary. Applies their proven skills and abilities toward the training of other employees.

  • Visitor Management - Respect the right of parents/guardians and adult patients to identify who may and may not visit by communicating visitor policy and enforcing their preference of approved and unapproved visitors. Provide badging and access that is specific to their needs.

  • Respond - Emergency Response to distress calls, panic alarms, and emergency calls for disorderly conduct, disruptive people, or combative patients. Respond to all hospital codes and evaluate the situation and act within CCHMC policy guidelines. Assist clinical staff with patient restraint - Physically restrain patients or other visitors as instructed by the appropriate clinical staff members. Requires annual recertification in physical restraint training.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 3+ years of work experience in a related job discipline

  • Valid driver's license

  • Ability to successfully complete TCI training and receive TCI certification within 6 months of your employment start date

  • Physical strength, stamina, agility, and physical control to safely, comfortably, and without risk of injury to self or others perform the following tasks: Stand for extensive periods of time Walk, stoop, kneel, twist/turn, and lift/carry up to 30 pounds Squat/crouch, lunge, and maneuver to the floor Slide down a wall while supporting the weight of another person Get up quickly from the floor to a standing position
