Job summary

HDR is seeking an Office Engineer to join our Field Services team in Rocky Hill, CT. You will read drawings, track progress, and manage records while coordinating with engineers and inspectors to ensure quality and compliance.

Ideal candidates have a PE license or CCM certification, solid team skills, and strong communication. This full-time role is onsite, offering an employee-owned culture and opportunities across large infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Fundamental understanding of contracts; familiar with codes and laws governing construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies.
  • Team player with strong collaboration skills.
  • Computer literate; experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Active participant in an employee-owned culture.
  • Visa sponsorship not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies.
  • Maintain daily records of contractor activities, labor, equipment and materials.
  • Review construction materials for contract compliance.
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates.
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings.
  • Observe installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment.
  • Identify nonconforming work; develop punch lists and follow until corrected.
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance.
  • Assist with project audits/closeout.
  • Work under supervision of a Resident Engineer.
  • Supervise junior staff and subconsultants.

Must be willing to work onsite in Rocky Hill, CT area. If candidate does not have PE license, they will be titled Resident Project Representative, instead of Office Engineer

In the role of Office Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor's daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used
  • Review construction materials for Contract compliance
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings
  • Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems
  • Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists and maintain until corrected
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance
  • Assist with project audit/closeout
  • Work under general supervision of a Resident Engineer
  • Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification

Familiarity with AASHTOware, Compass, and CTDOT policies and procedures.

  • Ability to interpret construction schedules
  • Ability to problem solve and provide possible solutions to the engineer

Required Qualifications
