  • Enter data into the Kentucky Offender Management System; maintain active/inactive probationer status.
  • Serve as liaison for institutional staff and provide status information to officials and the public.
  • Prepare inmate furloughs, transfers, conditional release and parole lists.
  • Respond to information requests under open records statutes.

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) mission is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and toprovide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of thelegislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills whichfacilitate non-criminal behavior.

The Office of Support Services within the Department of Corrections is seeking candidates for an OffenderInformation Specialist II to perform sentencing calculations in order to determine parole eligibility andrelease of inmates, this position will also maintain various offender inmate records.

  • Calculates terms of imprisonment to ensure that inmates have served the length of time required andissuing any credits to their sentences, release dates, jail time, parole eligibility and good timeadjustments.
  • Audits accuracy of terms of imprisonment.
  • Reviews inmate records for transfers.
  • Enters data regarding to terms of imprisonment into the Kentucky Offender Management System and maintainsthe status of active and inactive probationers.
  • Serves as liaison for institutional staff.
  • Provides verbal and written information regarding the status of prisoners to officials and the public.
  • Furnishes records information to administrative staff, the Parole Board and Courts.
  • Prepares inmate furloughs, transfers, conditional release and parole lists.
  • Answers telephone inquiries from Probation and Parole Offices for information regarding inmate'ssentences and release dates for the Pre- Sentence Investigation.
  • Responds to requests for information according to open records statutes.
  • Implements all functions associated with receiving and discharging inmates to and from the Department ofCorrections.
  • Communicates with courts, county and state agencies, general public, inmates, institution staff,regarding inmates official record.
  • Interprets, adheres to and enforces all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to inmaterecords.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:

Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:

One year of experience in management, administration, legal, paralegal, or offender records.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:

NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:

Administrative, legal, paralegal, law enforcement, or offender records work experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

Work is typically performed in an office setting.

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
