Job summary

Modine Manufacturing Company seeks a skilled CNC Machinist to set up and operate CNC equipment for cutting, drilling, milling, and finishing parts, using blueprints and planning data to determine tooling and sequences.

You will mount tooling, load programs, adjust controls for correct depth, speed, and feeds, and inspect parts with precision instruments to ensure conformance to drawings, maintaining safety and quality in a fast-paced shop.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 2–4 years of trade training or apprenticeship preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and schematics and work with close tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling and workpiece on the machine.
• Assembles cutting tools and positions them in machine spindles as specified.

Position Description

Sets up and operates Computer Numerical Control machines to perform various functions, such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic workpieces, utilizing knowledge of machine tool capabilities, machinability of materials, and shop math.

Key Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences.
• Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and work piece on machine.
• Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine spindles as specified, using hand tools, or insert cutting tools in specified machine magazines.
• Loads control media such as tape, card, or disk, in machine controller or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from data base.
• Calculates and sets machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors, such as cutting depth, speed, feed and coolant flow.
• Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
• Stops machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
• Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
• Discusses control media errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
• Inspects and measures parts for conformance to blueprint. (Able to work with close tolerance dimensions as called out on blueprint.
• Able to maintain and adjustment machine/equipment as required to optimize performance.

Required Education & Qualifications

Must have excellent attendance and ability to work with multiple and changing requirements. A minimum of a high school education or equivalent. 2 – 4 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship preferred.
