Job summary

Colorado Premium Foods is seeking a machine operator to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency on the production line in Colorado. You will inspect materials entering and leaving the machine, adjust equipment to match product specifications, and maintain a clean, safe work area.

The role requires basic mechanical aptitude, the ability to read work instructions, and the stamina to stand for extended periods while lifting up to 50 pounds (80 with assistance).

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret standard operating procedures and work instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed for cleaning, repair, or setup.
  • Operate machines to meet product specifications and adjust as needed.
  • Inspect raw materials and finished product for defects.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Maintain accurate production paperwork and logs.
  • Coordinate with QA, maintenance, and coworkers to minimize downtime.

Job description

This position ensures the highest quality food standards and personal safety as a machine operator. Inspects raw material entering the machine, and the processed material leaving the machine remaining alert for potential product defects. Ensure machine adjustments being utilized match the product specifications for the finished product. Maintain solid knowledge of how the machine works to ensure that it remains functional. Perform routine basic maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs. Use problem-solving skills to control lost time due to machine malfunctions. Support all for food safety, quality assurance, and product standards.Included Positions:The following job functions are for illustrative purposes only and include work performed as a OCM Operator, Formax Operator, and Marel Operator. These examples are not all inclusive, and other job titles involving machine operation may also be included as determined by the company.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Ensures proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) and procedures are followed to safeguard workers from the release of hazardous energy. Is an Authorized Employee who locks out and tags out equipment for cleaning, repairing, servicing, setting-up, adjusting, or unjamming operations. Understand job hazards and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the safe usage of the specific Hazardous Energy Control Procedures for the equipment.Inspect machinery to ensure that they remain compliant with specifications to reduce any malfunctions and associated loss of production. Stop any machines upon discovery of a problem and make the required adjustments as quickly as possible to minimize downtime. Keep all equipment running by inspecting grind plates, and performing basic maintenance, including scheduling needed repairs. Follow production sheets, watching codes and dates, and ensuring raw material rotation is done correctly.Working across the entire manufacturing operation, work closely with coworkers to properly operate and make adjustments to assigned equipment. Understand the process to assemble, disassemble, and operation of assigned machinery. Perform safety check on equipment being used to ensure it is functioning properly Ensure that good housekeeping practices are applied to the equipment and areas around the equipment.Operate equipment properly to maximize production and ensure safe and quality product. Ensure an adequate flow of raw materials to machine when in operation and identify possible problems with machinery to ensure product quality, employee safety, and to minimize downtime. Communicate routinely with coworkers, quality assurance, maintenance, and management to ensure the highest quality products are made in the safest possible manner.Monitors availability of needed raw materials and supplies, and coordinates with appropriate management staff. Ensures all company standards for safety, sanitation and productivity are maintained. Performs all scheduled grinder checks to ensure compliance with both operational and HACCP guidelines. Accurately fills out Foods Safety and Quality paperwork. Maintains required production paperwork. Ensures the work area is clean and meets the company standards.Supports and complies with all policies and procedures that ensure food safety, including cleanliness and housekeeping in all work areas. This includes responsibility for Safe Quality Food (SQF) for BRC compliance, HACCP, CCP tasks, sanitation, and all support program implementation.Education/Experience:High School or GED required, with one year of manufacturing equipment experience in commercial food operations, preferably in a protein-related industry or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as letters, memoranda, invoices, policies, and other documentation.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions, and to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Sufficient mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals accurately. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage correctly. Ability to lead problem solving and troubleshooting efforts associated with operational-level process issues.Must be able to stand a minimum of eight hours and continuously lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
