Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking an Ocean Systems Mechanical Engineer to join the Engineering and Test Group. You'll contribute to design, analysis, qualification, and testing of sophisticated sensor systems for maritime and undersea applications, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to advance Navy-focused projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field.
• Experience with design, analysis, qualification, and testing of marine winches/launch and recovery systems.
• Experience with electro‑mechanical systems design, development, deployment and testing.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams; strong communication skills.
• Experience with SolidWorks and Ansys.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical parts and assemblies using CAD such as SolidWorks and perform modeling/FEA as needed.
• Lead fabrication/assembly planning and coordinate with fabrication staff.
• Develop test plans and conduct land/ocean field tests for advanced sensor systems.
• Write test reports and briefs for upper management and sponsors.
• Support at-sea testing, ship checks, and field deployments.
