Job summary

DHL Global Forwarding in Torrance, CA, is seeking an Ocean Import Specialist to ensure accurate, timely movement of freight. The role involves confirming shipment details with origin, handling documents, verifying rates, coordinating with operations, and communicating with customers to resolve exceptions.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in ocean imports, strong regulatory knowledge, and proficiency with CargoWise and MS Office. A bachelor’s degree is preferred; hazmat certification is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years Ocean Imports experience in freight forwarding or International Supply Chain.
• Strong understanding of Ocean Import regulations and documents.
• Knowledge of Inco Terms is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Confirm shipment information with origin to initiate shipment
• Receive and validate customer orders including shipping documents, SLI, EIN, credit application
• Review/update; verify fees, customer profile, SOP, and rates per quote or SOP/work instructions
• Verify shipment status, review pre-alert and verify handling instructions
• Serve as a liaison between Document Processing Agent and the Customer regarding shipment details and/or exception
• Communicate and resolve problems that arise in the movement of product
• Communicate exceptions and shipment status with Customer

We have an exciting opportunity for an OCEAN IMPORT SPECIALIST with excellent communication and customer service skills. Accuracy and timely movement of freight and information is a key component for this position. This position will be based at our Torrance, CA location.

Key Responsibilities:

• Confirm all shipment information with origin to initiate shipment Receive and validate customers order including shipping documents, SLI, EIN, credit application

Skills / Requirements:

• Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven office environment
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
• Exceptional customer service and follow up skills
• Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Cargo Wise systems knowledge is a plus
• Hazmat certification is a plus
• Bachelor's degree preferred, High school diploma or GED required

Pay Range:

Pay Range: $19.03 - $25.38/hr. (Based on Experience)
