Job summary

Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute is seeking candidates for an AB Engine/QMED Oiler aboard the David Packard. This 1-year full-time position involves operating and monitoring the vessel's power plant, performing maintenance, and ensuring safety routines on a modern research ship.

The role offers autonomy in problem solving and opportunities to contribute to mission goals. The ship is Coast Guard inspected and ISM regulated, with rotating watches and long watch periods at sea.

Qualifications

  • US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential required.
  • RFPEW billet on COI (III/4).
  • Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties VI/6.
  • Valid passport, TWIC, Medical Certificate.
  • Ability to work up to 30 days continuously at sea.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the officer of the watch; monitor mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control equipment.
  • Complete maintenance inspections and tasks.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative atmosphere among scientists and crew.
