Job summary

Noland Health Services in Alabama seeks an Occupational Therapist to evaluate and treat adult and geriatric patients with various conditions. You will design goal-directed therapy plans, teach use of assistive devices, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient function.

The role requires a degree in Occupational Therapy, Alabama licensure, and NBCOT certification; at least 2 years' experience is preferred.

Qualifications

Job description

Summary of Duties

Provides occupational therapy to patients, adult or geriatric, who have conditions that are mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabling. Performs goal-directed activities to help improve physical or cognitive skills and teaches patients to use assistive devices in order to be more self-sufficient.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Evaluates patients' abilities and limitations.
  2. Establishes treatment goals based on the evaluation and reason for the referral of neuromuscular components of movement and stability; sensation; ADL's; perception; cognition, avocational and prevocational abilities; developmental; dysphagia; manual muscle test; range of motion; body mechanics; and other tests appropriate for the patient and the profession.
  3. Administers therapy according to the established plan, utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment and techniques within the scope of practice of Occupational Therapy.
  4. Educates the patient and the care giver about the goals of the occupational therapy program, methods of accomplishing goals, how to perform the home program and injury prevention.
  5. Recommends adaptive equipment, completes the equipment justification forms and arranges for the delivery of the equipment.
  6. Re-evaluates patients, assesses their progress and makes recommendations regarding discharge.
  7. Evaluates home or work environments and makes physical barrier modification recommendations or ergonomic recommendations.
  8. Consults and co-treats with therapists from other disciplines.
  9. Provides documentation of patient care according to established criteria.
  10. Participates in performance improvement activities.
  11. Supervises the patient care activities of Occupational Therapist Assistant.
  12. Serves on hospital committees and multidisciplinary teams as assigned.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education

Bachelors or Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy and with certification from the National Board of Certification Occupational Therapy from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy. Current licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Alabama.

Experience

Minimum of two (2) years experience preferred.

Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions
  1. Must be able to transport and/or lift an object intermittently throughout the work day up to a maximum of 20 pounds.
  2. Must be able to walk, stand, and work for extended periods of time without relief.
  3. Must possess dexterity of arms, hands, and fingers bilaterally.
  4. Must be able to work with hands for up to 12 hours a day.
  5. Must be able to push/pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
  6. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function
  7. Adequately so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
