Job description

Overview

As a per diem Therapist at Valley Health, the employee supports the Mission and Vision by providing high-quality, best-practice rehabilitation services. The per diem therapist may be employed in any rehab setting, is an active member of the interdisciplinary team, responds to physician referrals, determines skilled and medically necessary needs, and provides discipline-specific interventions to improve safety and functional independence. Feedback from the therapist informs patient progression through the continuum of care. The therapist maintains professional competence, identifies educational needs, seeks learning opportunities, provides mentorship to less experienced therapists, and adheres to licensure, documentation, and billing guidelines. The role emphasizes timely, efficient service and ongoing exploration of best practices for program development and process improvement, while supporting departmental, hospital, and organizational initiatives and timely communication.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate as an active member of the interdisciplinary team and respond to physician referrals.

  • Offer feedback to determine and recommend patient progression through the continuum of care.
  • Maintain professional competence and pursue continuing education; mentor less experienced therapists.
  • Deliver rehabilitation services in a timely and efficient manner, adhering to licensure, documentation, and billing guidelines.
  • Engage in research of best practices for program development and process improvement.
  • Stay aligned with departmental, hospital, and organizational initiatives and maintain professional communication.
Education

Post Graduate Certificate, Bachelor's, Master\'s or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy.

Certification & Licensures
  • OT License - Virginia/West Virginia licensure or transitional license at time of hire required.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (HCP) - AHA approved required.
  • New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
Qualifications

Basic computer and keyboarding skills or participation in computer training within the first year of employment. Competent to interact with patients according to age-specific competencies. Demonstrated ability to learn, exhibit, demonstrate, model, teach, and lead with proficiency in discipline-specific interventions based on experience and setting.
