Job summary

Northwell Health in New York, NY seeks a licensed Occupational Therapist to assess patients based on diagnosis and age, develop individualized plans of care, and implement creative therapy activities tailored to each patient’s needs.

You will monitor responses and adjust plans, teach activities to patients and families, document care, and coordinate with the care team to support home and community participation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • New York State license or New York State limited permit is required.
  • Minimum of one year related experience with Bachelor's Degree; with a Master's Degree, no experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Screens and assesses patients to develop individualized plans of care.
  • Discusses findings and collaborates with patients/family on goals.
  • Implements therapeutic activities considering age, interests, education level, and cultural factors.
  • Monitors patient response to treatment and adjusts plans as needed.
  • Develops programs to support performance in home and community environments.
  • Teaches activities/procedures to patients, family or staff, aligned with comprehension levels.
  • Monitors treatment environment for safety and psychosocial aspects of care.
  • Terminates services when maximum benefit is reached and plans follow-up.
  • Documents care and maintains records.
  • Schedules and prioritizes workload to meet productivity standards and deadlines.
  • Provides in-service education to staff and clinical education to students.
  • Performs related duties as required.

3. Implements creative treatment activities based upon patient’s age, interest, education level and social history and cultural and spiritual considerations.


4. Monitors patient response to treatment and changes plan, as needed.


5. Develops a program to support performance in the home and community environment.


6. Teaches specific activities/procedures to patient, family or hospital personnel in a manner consistent with their level of understanding.


7. Monitors treatment environment for safety.


8. Considers psychosocial aspects of care.


9. Terminates services when maximum benefit is received and formulates follow-up plan, when indicated.


10. Documents care and maintain records, as required.


11. Schedules and prioritizes workload to meet productivity standards and deadlines.


12. Provides in-service education to staff and clinical education to students.


13. Performs related duties as required.


Requirements, Experience and Qualifications:


  • Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy, required. Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy, preferred.

  • Current New York State license or New York State limited permit.

  • Minimum of one (1) year related experience with Bachelors Degree, required. No experience required with Masters Degree.


*ADA Essential Functions PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasional: exertion in excess of 100 lbs. force; Frequent: exertion in excess of 50 lbs force; and Constant exertion in excess of 20 lbs. force. Constant: balancing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting performed in combination Constant: use of fine and gross motor bilateral hand dexterity
