Job summary

Summa Health is seeking an Occupational Therapist (PD) to evaluate, plan, and administer occupational therapy within our acute care setting. The role involves rotating through locations and addressing regional needs across the Summa Health system.

Responsibilities include establishing treatment plans, delivering prescribed therapy, and complying with AOTA standards and internal rehabilitation requirements. A background in acute care settings and strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent and graduation from an AOTA-accredited program.
• Current Ohio OT licensure issued by the OT/PT/AT Board.
• CPR certification (AHA) for Health Care Providers.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and establishes an OT treatment plan.
• Administers medically prescribed OT program per AOTA and Summa guidelines.

Consistent start times; weekend & holiday rotation when applicable; float between locations with limited notice.
Travel possible: Regional assignments across designated hospitals & Juve Center.
IP acute care units including ICU, ED, PACU, TJR.

Summary

Evaluates, establishes treatment plans, and administers a medically prescribed occupational therapy program in accordance with professional guidelines as described by the American Occupational Therapy Association State of Ohio and Summa Health System/Rehabilitation Services requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Formal Education Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or Bachelor’s Degree and Certificate in Occupational Therapy; Graduate from an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association
• Current licensure issued by the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Athletic Trainers Board
• Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association
• Prefer board certification in clinical specialty area and/or advanced degree in healthcare field.
• Prefer active participation within professional organization.
• Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
• Professional verbal and written communication skills required for communication to referral sources, customer relations, interdisciplinary care and other stakeholders.
• Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self -respect, dignity, cultural compassion, diversity and inclusion.
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the work environment (see #3)
• Must be willing to advocate for and work with persons with all disabilities/conditions.
• Show flexibility/adaptability in meeting environmental constraints and regulatory demands placed on services/service delivery. Rotates through selected treatment areas and/or facilities when necessary to facilitate organizational service delivery and patient care needs.
• Assumes accountability for effectively demonstrating Service Excellence Care and following Standards of Behavior, Six Commitments and department policies and procedures and department work expectations.
• Successfully completes annual competency requirements.
• Minimally provides 40 hours clinical care annually (PRN only)
• Level of Physical Demands:
• Very Heavy: Exerts in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
• Requires exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment.
• Must be able to continuously stand and walk; frequently squat, climb stairs, bend to the floor, reach over the shoulder, kneels, twist, sit, stand and remain in uncomfortable positions for prolonged periods of time
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate specialized equipment and fabricate pads, splints, preventative taping/bracing, etc.
• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
