Job summary

Emory Healthcare is seeking an Occupational Therapist to coordinate daily activities within the therapy discipline and ensure high-quality patient care. The role involves direct and consultative patient care, carrying out therapy procedures, and collaborating with the care team and families.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy, Georgia state licensure, NBCOT certification, and BLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an ACOTE‑accredited program.
  • Licensure as an Occupational Therapist in Georgia.
  • NBCOT certification.
  • BLS Certification per American Heart Association guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in coordinating and managing daily activities of the discipline staff and students to ensure quality patient care.
  • Participates in direct and consultative patient care and in routine and specialized therapy procedures.
  • Maintains proficiency in technical skills for managing patient care and communicates with the care team, patients and families.
  • Assists with inventory control and budget planning for department needs and equipment.
  • Supports staff management, hiring input and training, and contributes to quality improvement initiatives.

Education

Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Assists in coordinating and managing the daily activities of the discipline specific staff and students to ensure quality delivery of patient care services. Participates in direct and consultative patient care. Performs routine and specialized procedures relating to therapy techniques. Maintains a high level of proficiency in the technical skills required for managing patient care. Communicates regularly with members of patient care team, the patient, family members and others involved with the patients care. Assists with inventory control and identifies the need for purchasing supplies and equipment to ensure the availability of commonly used materials. Identifies department specific needs/equipment for inclusion in budget(s). Provides input to departmental short and long term goals and objectives. Reviews and revises patient care and treatment procedures and policies on an on-going basis. Communicates policies, procedures and related forms in accordance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines. Assists with staff management and employee performance. Interviews applicants and makes recommendations for hiring staff. Assists in the maintenance of discipline specific records pertaining to continuing education, personnel, charting, financial operations and quality improvement. Serves as a resource to medical staff, students, other allied health professionals and support staff concerning the operations of the specific discipline. Assists in interpreting the applicable policies. Assists with the coordination of student activities. Participates in research activities being conducted within the organization. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an American Occupational Therapy Association accredited program. Licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Georgia. Must have and maintain NBCOT certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure; Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors; Communicable diseases; Electrical shock; Floor Surfaces; Hot/Cold Temperatures; Indoor/Outdoor conditions; Latex; Lighting ; Patient care/handling injuries; Radiation ; Shift work; Travel may be required; Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators; environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
