Job summary

Avera St Mary's Hospital in Pierre, SD is seeking a licensed Occupational Therapist to coordinate and deliver OT services. You will implement individualized treatment plans for patients across the care continuum, from infants to seniors, to meet department objectives.

Responsibilities include evaluating patients, creating and adjusting intervention goals, and documenting progress. Collaboration with rehabilitation, medical, and nursing teams is essential to deliver high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Active Occupational Therapist license in the state of practice upon hire.
  • 1–3 years of clinical patient care experience (preferred).

Pay Range

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $51.25 per hour, depending on experience.

Position Highlights

A Brief Overview

Responsible for the daily coordination and delivery of occupational therapy services focusing on conditions and health diagnoses, implementing specific treatment programs for individual patients and patient groups according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy and the department’s objectives.

What You Will Do
  • Demonstrate knowledge of age‑specific factors and perform satisfactorily for patients from infancy to geriatrics as noted on unit‑specific guidelines and competencies.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment programs for patients needing services. Evaluate patients, gathering data from patient records, interviews, observations, and team members.
  • Use selected activities and/or tasks to promote and maintain health and achieve treatment goals. Establish and modify intervention goals and strategies based on ongoing evaluations.
  • Provide direct therapy services to patients using functional settings and strategies.
  • Plan therapy within the patient’s individual physical, emotional, and intellectual capabilities, coordinating with rehabilitation, medical and nursing care plans.
  • Prepare required documentation such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress notes, and other reports.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other disciplinary team members regarding status, progress, and needs.
  • Establish rapport and work cooperatively with interdisciplinary team members, including family and physicians, throughout the intervention program.
  • Enhance professional growth through participation in educational programs, literature review, in‑service meetings, workshops, etc. Share new knowledge with co‑workers and evaluate and monitor clinical internships with students from various universities and colleges.
  • Participate in program development of the department.

The individual must be able to work the hours specified and perform each essential job function satisfactorily, including having adequate visual acuity, and the ability to communicate effectively, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds. Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience
  • Occupational Therapist licensing: an active license in the state of practice upon hire.
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience
  • 1–3 years of clinical patient care experience.
