Overview
Occupational Therapist (OT) II at Houston Methodist evaluates and develops the therapy plan of care for a broad range of diagnoses and acuities. This role may specialize in care for complex patient types through advanced training and education. As an experienced therapist, the OT II provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers, and collaborates with interprofessional team members to achieve identified patient goals. The OT II delivers patient care with adherence to safety standards and guidelines to ensure optimal patient safety and outcomes, and serves as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff, including other therapists and technicians. The OT II may act as a clinical resource to students and clinical fellows and assists with quality metrics collection, best practices development, and process improvement initiatives as designated.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section.
Experience
- Must have one of the following: three years experience as an Occupational Therapist; two years of experience as an Occupational Therapist with a Doctorate degree; or completion of HM or comparable Occupational Therapy Fellowship/Residency program.
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association and
- OT - Occupational Therapy - State Licensure - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; PSV Compact license acceptable according to current Board requirements within 90 days

- Collaborates with the healthcare team to adjust treatment plans, progress, and discharge planning to achieve patient-specific goals; advocates for patients and families as needed.
- Balances caseload to optimize patient care and outcomes; contributes to department improvement in patient satisfaction through accountability and service standard adherence.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
- Assesses patients regularly; monitors progress toward goals; modifies goals and plans as needed; addresses complications to optimize outcomes.
- Provides oversight of OT-related activities by the interprofessional team and adjusts plans to maintain safety and quality.
