Occupational Therapist

Full Time Days: M-F 8:30AM-5P

Job Type: Non Exempt

Job Summary
  • Responsible for providing therapy services consistent with licensure to clients including evaluation of patient, establishing plan of care, implementing treatment, directing and educating patient and/or caregiver, and documentation of the above.
  • Supervise therapy assistants, technicians, students, and volunteers as applicable.
  • Communicate with other health care providers regarding client care and treatment plans.
  • Provide training and education for hospital staff as requested.
  • Complete patient documentation in a timely manner to meet regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Attend continuing education programs and present findings to appropriate staff as applicable.
  • Review and complete all insurance authorization requirements for patients in a timely manner.
  • Assist with performance improvement for rehab department and hospital.
  • Understand use and precautions of any treatments and equipment used.
  • Positively contribute to the departmental financial performance/productivity.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited OT program.
  • Experience: No experience necessary. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
  • Licensure: Virginia State Occupational Therapy license or Compact Privilege.

    • Completes patient evaluations and treatments independently while maintaining patient safety.

    • Independently establishes/implements treatment goals and plans based on patient input and evaluation and assessment results.
    • Reassesses outcomes and modifies goals and plans to meet changing needs of the patient.
    • Schedules patient activities according to patient individual needs.

    • Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members and coworkers.
    • Functions as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.

    • Shares responsibility for effective internal communications through a team approach.
    • Organizes individual patient caseload in collaboration with team workload demands.
    • Performs daily administrative/office activities to ensure efficient flow of care within team.

    • Demonstrates technical competencies and job knowledge as it pertains to rehabilitative care.
    • Acquires and maintains knowledge of clinical therapy practice by identifying continuing education needs and participating in educational opportunities.
    • Provides orientation and guidance to new rehabilitation staff in work area as requested.
Physical Demands

Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
