Job summary

UCSF Health seeks a Staff Occupational Therapist for the Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Hyde Hospital in San Francisco. This inpatient role follows a Sunday–Thursday schedule and includes a $5,000 sign-on bonus for Acute Care experience, plus relocation reimbursement to support your transition.

You will evaluate adults and older adults with diverse backgrounds, plan therapeutic interventions, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team while mentoring OT students and fellows.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Occupational Therapist in California.
  • Minimum one year of licensed practice experience.
  • Proficient in English communication, both spoken and written.
  • Experience with Epic EMR is preferred.
  • Ability to orient to all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy for adults and geriatric patients.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans and goals.
  • Supervise OT students and rehab aides as needed.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and participate in quality initiatives.
  • Participate in 40 hours of professional development annually.

This is an inpatient position in our Rehabilitation Services department for our Acute Rehabilitation Unit at UCSF Health Hyde Hospital. The role is a Sunday‑Thursday shift.

The Staff Occupational Therapist (Occupational Therapist 2) reports to the Clinical Supervisor and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The staff occupational therapist works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. With specific pediatric competencies and clinical experience, they may also work with infants, children, and/or adolescents.

Under general direction and upon receipt of licensed-approved provider written referrals, the staff occupational therapist plans and administers a full range of occupational therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and functional limitations. Services include patient evaluations using various physical, cognitive, visual/perceptual, psychosocial, and developmental tests and measurements; establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and programs; and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans using occupational therapy techniques.

The staff occupational therapist demonstrates practice competence in managing patients of varying clinical acuity and complexity. They may seek mentoring for novel clinical presentations or areas of specialty practice for which they are not experienced or certified.

The staff occupational therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services, is organized in work habits, and demonstrates effective time management skills. While performing job duties, they may also supervise occupational therapy students, occupational therapy doctoral fellows, and rehabilitation aides.

The staff occupational therapist participates in regular professional and clinical development activities, completing 40 hours or more per year. As a member of the clinical care team, they also participate in and may lead compliance, quality, safety, and process improvement initiatives in the department, local care setting, and organization.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year of licensed practice experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Basic computer skills including work within Epic electronic medical record.
  • Good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self‑initiation skills.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience providing patient care in acute care hospital and acute rehab/IRF patient care setting.
  • Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
License / Certification
  • Licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the Occupational Therapy Board of California.
  • AHA BLS certification.
