Precision Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, LLC seeks an Occupational Therapist to join our Hand Therapy Clinic in Laurel, MD. You will perform diagnostic evaluations and develop treatment plans to help patients regain function and independence after hand injuries or surgeries.

The position offers full-time hours with competitive compensation ($85,000.00 to $120,000.00 annually) and a comprehensive benefits package. Experience in hand therapy and Maryland licensure are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from an ACOTE-accredited program is required.
• Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association is required.
• Licensed to practice in Maryland.
• One year of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides diagnostic evaluations and treatment for assigned patients.
• Helps patients reach maximum performance level for community functioning.
• Designs and administers hand therapy treatment programs to improve strength, ROM, and fine-motor skills.
• Trains patients in use of upper-extremity prosthetic devices and adaptive equipment.
• Fabricates splints and slings as prescribed by doctors.
• Informs manager when educational and treatment supplies are needed.
• Schedules follow-up appointments and maintains patient records.

The Registered Occupational Therapist will provide diagnostic evaluations and treatment to assigned patients, and help patients reach maximum performance level and to use skills learned to the fullest to function in the community within the limits of their capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from an ACOTE accredited school required.
• Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association required.
• Licensed to practice in the state of Maryland

Responsibilities

• Provides consultation in areas such as environmental design, adaptive equipment, proper positioning of patients to prevent contractures and splinting, and to agencies such as local schools, nursing homes, visiting nurse associations.
• Maintains timely and accurate patient records and reports with completion of initial evaluations, progress report, and discharges within 48 hours.
• Designs and administers treatment programs to increase patients' levels of functioning. Uses therapeutic exercises and activities to improve or maintain strength, range of motion, and fine-motor coordination. Instructs patients in adapted techniques and the use of adaptive equipment for meal preparation, home management, dressing, feeding, and other self-care skills. Trains patients in the use of upper-extremity prosthetic devices to resume previous daily routines.
• Provides therapy for neurological integration; administers sensor-motor integration treatment techniques and visual perceptual-motor remediation programs.
• Designs and fabricates splints as specified by doctors' prescriptions; designs and/or fabricates slings and adaptive equipment to meet the needs of patients and/or their families.
• Provides prevention therapy to maintain functional skills; instructs patients in energy conservation, joint protection, and safety techniques for sensory loss; instructs patients' families in personal care for patients, especially proper transfer techniques to avoid back strain.
• Administers therapeutic activities to prepare patients to return to or enter a work setting. Provides activities to assess patients' coordination (fine and gross-motor), and adaptive-equipment needs.
• Designs home programs and instructs patients or families in carrying out such programs.
• Informs Clinical or Office Manger when educational and treatment supplies are needed.
• Schedule patients for follow up appointments.
