Job summary

Turning Pointe Autism Foundation is seeking a Licensed Occupational Therapist to support its Day School team in Naperville, IL. The role focuses on delivering school-based OT services aligned with ISBE requirements and student IEP goals.

Position: Occupational Therapist

FLSA: Exempt, Full-Time

ISBE Category: Related Services Personnel

Qualifications: Licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation pursuant to the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act

Salary: $65,000-$95,000 annually

Turning Pointe Autism Foundation is looking for an Occupational Therapist that will assist the Day School team in cultivating a positive learning environment that utilizes best practices and support administration to effectively deliver occupational therapy services as defined by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver occupational therapy services as mandates on student IEP’s for assigned caseload in accordance with ISBE
  • Plan, develop and implement appropriate IT services and interventions to students with disabilities that is evidence-based and foster improvement student performance
  • Seek out and participate in professional development opportunities to continue education, recommend interventions and provide direction to staff on the most current research and methodologies in the area of OT
  • Collaborate with a variety of groups and individuals for the purpose of communication information, education staff, resolving issues and providing services in compliance with established ISBE and TPAF guidelines.
  • Consult with the school-base team to achieve student outcomes
  • Adapt and modify the environment, including training instructional staff to meet individual needs and to help students function as independently as possible
  • Administer formal and informal assessments through a variety of functional, behavioral and standardized assessments, observations, checklists, histories and interviews to evaluate the student’s ability and needs
  • Develop intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results and monitor the effects in order to continue, modify or discontinue intervention
  • Prepare a variety of written materials and maintain appropriate records
  • Organize and maintain student records and school files per ISBE requirements
  • Attend and assist in preparation for School Improvement Days, team meetings and training as scheduled
  • Use multiple modalities to reach the goal of functional occupational performance within the school environment
  • Develop appropriate IEP goals in collaboration with team members
  • Establish and maintain a positive rapport and communication routine with students, parents and families
  • Be committed to the overall Turning Pointe mission and goals by providing IT services, support and/or consultation to other PRAF programs as needed
Requirements
Experience/Skills:

Professional judgement and clinical knowledge used to develop individualized programing based on occupational performance deficits in: personal care, interaction skills, procession skills, leisure, community integration and work

Working with public and private sector organizations, state and local regulators, school districts and education leaders

Excellent writing skills, ability to build and sustain relations with TP staff and organizational leaders and all stakeholders in a student’s home district

Show initiative, work independently and possess solid organizational skills required

Have a patient and calm approach to work; ability to provide and accept constructive feedback

Physical Demands:

May require lifting and supporting up to 50 pounds

Must be able to implement crisis protocols, which may include physical crisis management procedures

May require bending, stooping, and kneeling

Must be able to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations

May require standing and circulating for extended periods of time.

Work in an environment of moderate to high stress levels

Must be able to have daily contact with students, teachers, and school staff

Must be able to have regular interaction with parents, community members and outside agency personnel

May be exposed to contact with individuals displaying physically aggressive, self-abusive, or socially undesirable behavior
