Job summary

McLeod Health in Myrtle Beach, SC is seeking an Occupational Therapist to plan and administer treatment plans that help patients regain daily living skills.

You will evaluate patients, develop care plans, document progress, coordinate with physicians and the care team, supervise OTA staff, pursue professional development, and maintain licensure and CEUs.

Qualifications

• Active South Carolina license in Occupational Therapy.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Maintains good standing and NBCOT certification.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient evaluations and develop plans of care tailored to learning style and therapeutic needs.
• Provide therapeutic interventions for diverse functional limitations and document progress with measurable goals.
• Maintain patient records, evaluations, re-evaluations, progress notes and discharge summaries within time guidelines.
• Adjust schedules and supervise OTA; meet regularly to review patient goals.
• Contribute to department performance through professional development and mentorship; participate in meetings and improvement ideas.
• Pursue CEUs and maintain licensure; communicate with physicians and the care team regarding progress and orders.
• Ensure a safe, clean work area and proper safety practices; perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary: The Occupational Therapist is responsible for planning and administering occupational therapy treatment plans designed to help injured, disabled, or severely ill patients recover the skills and abilities they need for the activities of daily life.

• Completes patient evaluations based on information obtained through history, observation, subjective and objective measurements. Develops plan of care most appropriate to the patient’s learning style and therapeutic needs, communicating goals with the patient and/or family members, considering psycho‑social, cultural and spiritual needs of patients and/or families.
• Provides therapeutic interventions for a wide variety of physical and/or functional limitations related to, but not limited to musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, and developmental impairments, documenting progress with measurable and functional goals.
• Maintain patient records according to hospital policy, completing evaluations, re‑evaluations, progress and treatment notes, charges, and discharge summaries within departmental time guidelines.
• Assists in adjusting schedules to accommodate changes in caseload in the department. Supervises operation of specific treatment team. Meets with OTA on regular basis to discuss patient and set goals.
• Contributes to the overall performance of the department through professional development strategies, including, but not limited to competency training, clinical instructor, in service coordination, serving as a mentor in area of clinical expertise, program leader, attendance of meetings, and performance improvement ideas.
• Demonstrates continued professional growth through setting goals and participating in education offerings, independently achieve and maintain CEU’s for SC LLR.
• Communicates with physicians, other medical personnel and members of the interdisciplinary medical team regarding treatment provided, patient’s progress or complications, recommendations, and clarification of orders.
• Utilizes appropriate health and safety equipment to protect both patients and staff. Ensures an orderly, clean and safe work area.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Certifications/Education/Licenses

• Active South Carolina license in Occupational Therapy
• Current Basic Life Support (CPR/AED) certification
• Maintains good standing and certification with NBCOT
