Job summary

Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES is seeking an itinerant Occupational Therapist for a student-focused caseload at Erie 1 BOCES. The role involves servicing students per IEP OT needs, with occasional travel and collaboration with the school educational team.

Responsibilities include evaluating, planning and administering therapy, developing assistive devices, maintaining records, and contributing to annual reviews.

Qualifications

• Must have permanent status as an Occupational Therapist.
• Registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association and NYS licensure required.
• Four‑year OT degree or a bachelor’s degree with completed OT postgraduate program.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate students’ OT needs and manage a caseload; travel may be required.
• Plan, administer and supervise OT treatments.
• Develop assistive devices and self‑help techniques.
• Coordinate OT with other student services for remediation and maintenance of student abilities.
• Maintain accurate treatment records and report progress in IEPs.
• Communicate with classroom teachers about specific needs; supervise OT staff; manage equipment and paperwork.

Job Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for servicing students based on their IEP OT needs. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, manage a caseload of students, travel may be required. Work with the educational team, complete IEPS in preparation for student Annual Reviews, complete evaluations and complete paperwork as required.

Specific Duties

1. Evaluates physical, psycho-social and perceptual dysfunction of referred students.
2. Plans, administers, and supervises treatment procedures.
3. Develops assistive devices and self-help techniques.
4. Coordinates occupational therapy with other student services concerned with restoration and maintenance of the student's optimum level of ability.
5. Keeps accurate records of treatment and makes written reports on the student's progress for the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
6. Consults with classroom teacher regarding specific needs.
7. Supervises Certified Occupational Therapists as assigned.
8. Maintains OT equipment.
9. Maintains and completes departmental paperwork.
10. Other related duties as directed by the Special Education Supervisor.

Minimum Civil Service Qualifications

Must hold permanent status as an Occupational Therapist; or; Must be reachable on the current Occupational Therapist Civil Service list; or; Must meet minimum qualifications for provisional appointment as follows:

1. A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college with a major in Occupational Therapy, or;
2. B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college with a bachelors degree in any field and completion of an approved post-graduate program in Occupational Therapy

REQUIRED: Registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association and licensed byNYS required

Additional Qualifications

• Must have received a canvass letter from Erie 1 BOCES for OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST # 42-105.
