Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) seeks an Occupational Therapist to develop, implement, and maintain rehabilitation programs for individuals with mental, physical, or emotional handicaps. The role involves planning customized activities, teaching patient skills, and coordinating therapy with other treatments to restore function and independence.

The OT may create assistive devices and participate in training sessions, contributing to patient progress and successful rehabilitation outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Plans rehabilitation programs which involve manual arts, practice in prevocation, vocation, homemaking skills, daily living, sensorimotor, educational and recreational activities to assist patients in functioning or adjusting to handicaps.
• Selects activity program consistent with needs and capabilities of each patient and coordinates program with other therapeutic activities.
• Selects constructive activities for patients to upgrade patient to maximum independence, prepare patient for return to work, to assist in restoration of functions and aid in adjustment to disability.
• Teaches patients skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluates patient's progress.
• Suggests special equipment for patient to use in adaption to work-living environment.
• Lays out materials for patients use and cleans and repairs tools at end of session.
• Conducts and participates in training programs.
• May make and fit adoptive devices such as splints, braces, etc.
