Job Description
Job Summary: The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing and administering of occupational therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed professional of the healing arts. OT is responsible for directing the development, implementation, supervision and ongoing evaluation of the activities program. This includes the completion and/or directing/delegating the completion of the activities component of the comprehensive assessment; and contributing to and/or directing/delegating the contribution to the comprehensive care plan goals and approaches that are individualized to match the skills, abilities, and interests/preferences of each student.
Essential Job Functions
- Completes student evaluation and plan of occupational therapy program care.
- Demonstrates competency in the performance of student evaluations, cognitive, perceptual, sensory, motor coordination, prevocational function capacity, ADL, strength/range of motion, and home management assessments.
- Interviews student/family for program planning.
- Selects testing and analysis and formulates long term goals and objectives.
- Sets up and performs treatment plans.
- Completes progress and summary reports.
- Completes documentation of service notes for students.
- Assists in the ordering and maintenance of supplies.
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding knowledge of all patient information (HIPAA), confidential staff and district policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all daily, weekly, and monthly checklists, schedules, and inventories are complete.
- Contributes to the setting of standards and monitoring of measurable standards of care and is accountable for maintaining those standards.
- Keeps up to date with relevant clinical and professional developments in occupational therapy.
- Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance and performs district attendance procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business, acts ethically, sets priorities, and works well under pressure with attention to detail.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by the Principal or Superintendent of Schools.
Education and Experience
- A valid South Carolina license to practice as an Occupational Therapist under South Carolina Labor Licensing Regulation.
- Graduate of an accredited program with a BS, MA/MS in Occupational Therapy.
- Minimum (2) two years direct occupational therapy care in a variety of settings with a strong background in pediatric care in a school system setting.
- Must have a current CPR certification.
- Proficient in computers and word processing software; or any equivalent combination of training software and experience that provides required knowledge.

Knowledge
- Knowledge of general computer applications and their utilization as related to specific tasks and responsibilities.
- Knows how to keep abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to personnel and community related functions.
- Thorough knowledge of business and medical terminology, spelling, grammar, punctuation, possession of an excellent vocabulary and mathematical computation.

Working Conditions
- Requires travel to requested locations as needed for student care and/or therapy.
- Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
- Physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require meeting tight deadlines, considerable attention and working with both adults and students.
