Job summary

Tidelands Health is seeking an Occupational Therapist for acute care/float on a PRN basis. The role focuses on evaluating patients, planning treatments, and improving mobility in an interdisciplinary setting.

The OT will document progress, educate families for home programs, and contribute to quality improvement while following professional standards and facility guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review referrals, assess patient condition, and develop an individualized OT treatment plan.
  • Evaluate functional ability using standard tests and document progress.
  • Administer OT treatments and monitor responses to maximize function.
  • Educate patients and families for home programs and ensure documentation per guidelines.
  • Maintain productivity and participate in program development and quality improvement.

A Brief Overview

Responsible for providing a full range of therapeutic services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position's qualification, professional practices, and ethical standards. An Occupational therapist (OT) must be able to evaluate a patient's condition and devise a customized Occupational rehabilitation and treatment plan. The OTs' goal is to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability, to maximize quality of life in an acute care setting. The Occupational therapist shall also demonstrate accountability for the contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem solving, and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion. The employee may have job functions where they will handle and deliver medications based on the requirements of their job in the assigned work facility. The employee will complete other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do
  • Review physician's referral (prescription), patient's condition, medical history, and submitted medical records to determine Occupational therapy treatment required. Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of patient and incorporate proper interventions that can help patients better perform everyday tasks, decrease pain, ambulation, and improve strength and mobility
  • Evaluate patients' functional ability through various standardized tests, measures patient's strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and level of independence with daily activities, and records findings to develop treatment programs
  • Develop a treatment plan for patients with specific goals and tasks
  • Administer treatments involving application of Occupational agents, such as cold packs, contrast baths, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, Iontophoresis, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound machines
  • Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit
  • Record treatment, responses, and progress in the patient’s electronic medical record and prepare reports as indicated by licensure, the provider, and or insurance recommendations
  • Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home
  • Complete documentation per clinical / department guidelines and meets expectations of monthly department chart audits
  • Complete required orientation as directed by facility
  • Achieves the established average monthly patient care productivity metric
Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree Preferred
Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to utilize therapy equipment in an outpatient rehabilitation setting to provide treatment and procedures
  • Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts
  • Ability to respect cultural and religious practices of patients
Licenses and Certifications
  • Occupational Therapist Registered/Licensed - South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required
