Job summary

Responsibilities

• Tests and evaluates residents for therapy and support needs; assesses availability of in-clinic or on-site facilities, equipment, and/or services.
• Plans, organizes, and conducts occupational therapy programs designed to help residents regain physical or mental functioning or to adjust to their disabilities.
• Treats, educates, and counsels residents and families as appropriate regarding specific physical, mental, and/or developmental disabilities.
• Monitors resident progress throughout treatment; prepares and maintains records and reports as appropriate, ensuring adherence to procedural safeguards and confidentiality requirements.
• Participates in training medical and nursing personnel in occupational therapy techniques and objectives.
• Conduct and document a thorough functional assessment of the resident, utilizing standardized procedures. Assessment of home/vocational and equipment needs.
• Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse.
• Supervise COTA(s) per state guidelines.

Directs resident participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance; facilitates the learning of skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity, diminish or correct pathology, and promote and maintain health.
