Description

The Occupational Therapist is a member of a multidisciplinary school team that assists in identifying and providing services to students who require additional support to successfully participate in their educational environment. Occupational Therapists use their expertise to support student outcomes, these include but are not limited to: training in self-care and activities of daily living, pre-vocational training skills, functional motor skills including accessibility and safety, sensory-motor integration techniques, fine-motor skill development, visual motor development, bilateral coordination skills, postural control, adaptive equipment or techniques, perceptual motor training, and strengthening and stretching exercises. This position requires direct interaction with students, as well as the development and implementation of educational plans with teachers, administrators, and parents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide fine motor, sensory, and functional assessments (evaluations/screenings) to assist in determining a student’s eligibility for special education and their ability to access and benefit from their education.
  • Provide services as deemed appropriate by the evaluation findings and develop measurable school-based goals in respect to the students total environment, needs, and input from the educational team.
  • Develop interventions and strategies to meet established goals. Monitor progress toward these goals and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide direct or consultative therapy services via interaction with students or consultative services amongst the team using appropriate therapeutic techniques.
  • Collaborate with the educational team to develop and implement strategies and techniques to support the student’s program such as adaptations, accommodations, positioning, and equipment related to environmental and/or physical needs.
  • Comply with all IEP requirements, written reports, records/testing protocols, progress notes, student attendance, and data-keeping. Participate in student meetings: domain, initial evaluation, re‑evaluation, annual review, team meetings, etc.
  • Maintain files and/or records in accordance with the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act.
  • Share information and train staff, parents, and students through instruction, modeling, and service within the classroom and/or school environment. Explain information in a clear understandable way to the audience and provide strategies and support parents.
  • Secure a written physician’s prescription/referral for each student who requires direct services and complete billing for Medicaid-eligible students. Complete Medicaid and Administrative Outreach within time limits.
  • Participate in the selection of therapy‑based equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in the ordering and upkeep of the Curriculum.
Qualification Requirements
