Community Action Wayne Medina is seeking an Occasional (substitute) Head Start Preschool Teacher to assist in planning and implementing learning experiences for children's intellectual and physical development. This role requires a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and involves travel to various locations.
The ideal candidate will possess compassion, customer service skills, and have experience in early childhood education. A high school diploma or GED along with a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is required along with the ability to work effectively in a multi-task environment.

Our Occasional (substitute) Head Start Teachers fill in on an as needed basis. This position requires travel to Head Start locations in both Medina and Wayne County.
To assist with the planning and implementation of learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving readiness of children for school by developing their literacy and phonemic, print, and numeracy awareness; their understanding and use of language; their understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary; their appreciation of books; and their problem‑solving abilities. To assist in the establishment and maintenance of a safe and healthy learning environment. To assist in the planning of activities that support the social and emotional development of the children. To ensure that families and children have access to all services that are offered and that they are positively impacted by the program. To assist in the maintenance of all licensing standards.
Demonstrate compassion and an ability to work with low‑income persons from diverse populations, and be able to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑task environment.
Early Childhood Development, program standards, grant goals, and department goals.
Ability to work with a variety of people and across diverse cultures.
Exhibit excellent customer service skills. Work effectively as part of a team, demonstrate good interpersonal skills, and be cooperative and maintain a positive attitude.
Minimum qualifications include: a high school diploma or GED plus a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, enrollment in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree or enrollment in a CDA credential program within 60 days of hire (to be completed within one year of hire) with at least one year experience caring for children in a comprehensive setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic understanding of Child Development and developmentally appropriate practices. Written and oral communication skills. Willingness to learn about position and organization. Demonstrated ability to develop consistent, stable, supportive relationships with young children and their families.
If no associate’s degree, must enroll in a CDA credential program within 60 days of hire (to be completed within one year of hire).
Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and remain insurable in accordance with the agency’s vehicle insurance policy.
Personal computer, printers, fax machine, telephone, copier, and other standard business office equipment.
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.), potentially emotionally distraught individuals, and has exposure to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions. Ability to sit/stand for a lengthy period of time, stoop, bend and lift (up to 50 lbs.) while attending to the needs of children. Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work.
