Job summary

Oldham County Schools seeks a Preschool Classroom Instructional Assistant to support the Special Education teacher in highly structured and general education settings.

You will help implement designed instructional programs for individual students, assist with assessments and data collection, manage activities, support technology, and help with nursing-related duties when needed, all while adhering to IDEA guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Paraeducator exam or 48 college credits required.
• Experience with children in a group setting.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds and perform related physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance for the special education teacher in structured and general education settings.
• Assists in implementing specially designed instructional programs for individual students.
• Complies with IDEA guidelines.
• Assists with assessments, IEP data collection, grading, materials, and instruction.
• Attends required professional development and meetings.
• Maintains classroom management and academics when the teacher is absent.
• Assists students with technology used in the classroom and school settings.
• Performs medically related services for students receiving nursing services.
• Other duties assigned by administrators and supervising teachers.

Preschool Classroom Instructional Assistant

Job Goal: To implement the educational programs developed by the Special Education teacher.

Job Type: Classified Job Class Code: 8315 Position Type: Hourly Reports to: Building Principal/Special Education Classroom Teacher/Director of Exceptional Children Services Terms of Employment: Compensation will be determined based on 183 contract days on the board approved 109 salary schedule. This position requires a 6.5 hour workday.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to work with children.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others.
• High school diploma.
• Passing Paraeducator exam or 48 college credit hours required.
• Experience with children in a group setting.
• Must be able to lift, push or pull 40 pounds and also be able to bend at the waist, kneel and reach above your head.

Performance Responsibilities

• Provides assistance for the special education classroom teacher of exceptional students in the highly structured setting and general education setting.
• Assists the teacher in carrying out specially designed instructional programs for individual students.
• Complies with all Federal and State IDEA guidelines.
• Assists in classroom assessments, IEP data collection, grading, creating materials, individual and group instruction, and filing activities.
• Attend all required professional development and other meetings directly assigned to this position.
• Maintains classroom management and academics in the absence of the teacher.
• Assists students with technology used in the classroom and across school settings.
• Performs and documents necessary medically related services (such as feeding, meal prep, hygiene assistance, medication administration, toileting, etc.) for all students who receive nursing services.
• Other duties assigned by school administrators and/or supervising teacher(s).
