Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a clinically competent, registered nurse for the 3S - Observation Unit on the inpatient service. The part-time position requires 7am-7:30pm shifts with rotating weekends and a focus on rapid patient evaluations for safe discharge or transfer.

The role emphasizes coordination with multiple disciplines, patient-centered discharge planning, and adherence to ANA standards of practice while supporting unit governance and ongoing education.

Qualifications

• BSN required and licensed RN in Illinois (or compact license with state eligibility)
• BLS certification required
• Strong interpersonal skills and collaboration
• Analytical thinking and clinical decision making
• ADN acceptable with commitment to obtain BSN within 3 years

Responsibilities

• Collects and analyzes data; develops and implements an individualized plan for each patient.
• Directs care and utilizes assistants appropriately.
• Collaborates with patients, families, physicians, and staff; documents the plan of care.
• Participates in shared governance, committees, and unit projects.
• Evaluates patient responses to nursing interventions and updates care plans.
• Uses best available evidence to guide practice decisions
