Job summary

Sturdy Memorial Hospital is seeking an Observation Aide to provide constant supervision for at-risk patients and assist licensed staff with safety procedures. The role requires quick recognition of emergencies, accurate observation via the Avasys system, and effective redirection of patients to reduce risk.

Required are a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of hospital orientation, and strong English communication.

Job description

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 24

Provides constant observation of patients in person who are in need of supervision because of possible danger to self and/or others; change in mental status (confusion) that may place the patient at risk for injury and/or interferes with the effectiveness of medical/surgical equipment.

Essential Duties

• Provide assistance to licensed staff in the application/removal of restraints
• Performs patient assistance such as ambulation and mobilization activities safely.
• Recognize patient emergency situations and respond in an appropriate manner.
• Provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients via Avasys.
• Will verbally re-direct patients from engaging in risk behaviors
• Demonstrates knowledge of operational competency of the Avasys Monitoring System.

Required Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience

• Able to follow directions.
• Demonstrates dependability, punctuality and flexibility.
• Successfully completes class on role and responsibilities.
• Command of verbal and written English
• Must visibly demonstrate commitment to customer service by providing timely, positive responses to the needs of all customers including patients, families, co-workers and staff.

Educational Requirements

• High School Graduate or equivalent
• Completion of Hospital Orientation / Observation Aide Orientation and Avasys Orientation.

Ability to effectively communicate to all age levels served within the scope of the position/assigned areas.

Salary Range: $15.67-$23.50

Salary Range Details

The pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. This is not inclusive of the value Sturdy Health’s benefits package (if applicable), which includes among other benefits, healthcare/dental/vision and retirement. For annual salaries this is based on full-time employment.
