Job summary

Dignity Health - Mercy Medical Center in Merced, CA is seeking an Obstetrics Technician to support the Labor & Delivery team with critical patient care tasks. You will prepare rooms, set up equipment, assist with patient positioning and transport, and help maintain documentation while collaborating closely with RNs and physicians.

The role requires CNA or MA certification in CA, CPR/BLS, and OR Scrub Tech training, with on-call shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

  • CNA license or MA registration in CA required.
  • BLS/CPR certification required.
  • OR Scrub Tech training must be completed.
  • On-call availability: 1 shift per week including 1 weekend per month.

Responsibilities

  • Assist nurses and physicians with direct patient care tasks.
  • Prepare labor and delivery rooms and set up equipment.
  • Distribute supplies and assist with patient positioning and transport.
  • Maintain medical records documentation and related clerical tasks.
  • Refer questions to the RN and follow established plan of care.

Job Summary And ResponsibilitiesAs our Obstetrics Technician, you will be a vital and compassionate member of our Labor & Delivery team, providing essential technical and patient care support to ensure a safe, comfortable, and positive birthing experience for new families.

As our Obstetrics Technician, you will be a vital and compassionate member of our Labor & Delivery team, providing essential technical and patient care support to ensure a safe, comfortable, and positive birthing experience for new families.

Every day you will assist nurses and physicians with direct patient care tasks, including preparing labor and delivery rooms, setting up equipment, distributing supplies, and assisting with patient positioning and transport.

To be successful in this role, you must possess strong organizational and technical skills, a calm and reassuring demeanor under pressure, and a profound commitment to supporting the miracle of birth with efficiency and compassion.

  • Assists nursing personnel in maintaining required medical record documentation, as well as administrative / clerical processes surrounding the daily operation of the Nursing Unit
  • Under the direction of the RN implements care for a group of patients, based upon the established plan of care
  • Refers questions and abnormal findings regarding patient care and/or priorities to the RN
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the step-by-step progress of specific surgical procedures and displays dexterity in the use of required instrumentation

Required

Job Requirements

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA): CA, or
  • Medical Assistant (MA) Registration: CA
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - CPR
  • Must be able to take on-call shifts of one (1) per week including one (1) weekend per month
  • Must successfully complete OR Scrub Tech training

Preferred

  • High School Graduate General Studies, or
  • High School GED General Studies
  • Prior experience as a Unit Clerk and/or OB Technician

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
