Job summary

UNTWN Uniontown Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist/OR Tech to assist in patient care by preparing and transferring instruments during procedures under RN supervision. You will help prepare and arrange OR equipment and supplies, ensuring patient safety across ages.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, CST certification, and may have completed Surgical Technology, Practical Nursing, or Medical Assisting training; one year of OR scrub experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved school of Surgical Technology OR Practical Nursing OR an Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering patient care by transferring equipment/instrumentation during procedures to physicians.
• Secure, set up, and prepare Operating Room equipment, instruments and supplies.
• Arrange instruments, tables, stands and other items in specified order and adjust equipment to ages of patients served.
• Provide and assist in meeting patient care needs appropriate to ages served.
• Complete assignments on time according to responsibilities.
• Prepare instrumentation for transport to Central Sterile after procedures.

Job description

Assists in the delivery of patient care by transferring equipment/instrumentation during procedures to physicians. Performs a variety of duties related to the preparation, processing and arrangement of surgical instruments and supplies under the direction of a professional registered nurse appropriate to the ages of patients served.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an approved school of Surgical Technology OR Practical Nursing OR an Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.

Experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• One (1) year of Operating Room scrub experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform routine and special nursing procedures as delegated by the professional registered nurse.
• Secures, sets up and prepares the Operating Room equipment, instruments and supplies.
• Arranges instruments, tables, stands and other articles in specified order. Adjusts equipment appropriate to the ages of patients served.
• Provide and assists in meeting the patient's care needs and appropriate to the ages of patients served.
• Organizes time to complete assignments according to specifically assigned responsibilities.
• Properly prepares instrumentation following completion of procedures for transport to Central Sterile for reprocessing.
• Follows department guidelines in the cleaning and disinfection of furniture/equipment.
• Maintains general cleanliness of unit and restocks appropriately.
• Reports to Department Director/designee and equipment malfunctions that could affect the standard of care or legal implications.
• Verifies accuracy of sponge/needle and instruments on appropriate record.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Frequent walking, standing, bending, and kneeling.
• Ability to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, latex, medications, sharps, and radiation.

Skills And Abilities

• Ability to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously.
• Efficiency in processing of verbal information, either in written or spoken form is a major requirement and prerequisite of the job.
• Some independent thought, planning or origination of options and solutions is necessary.
• Ability to apply principles of reasoning and problem solving to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
