Job summary

Spring Grove Cemetery & Funeral Homes is seeking an Oak Hill Grounds Technician to support the Oak Hill Grounds Team. The role is full-time, non-exempt, and involves outdoor work at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati. Key duties include operating backhoe equipment, maintaining grounds, and assisting funeral services as needed.

Scheduled hours are Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with every third Saturday and possible weekend work. Local travel between campuses may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Experience in grounds maintenance, greens industry, or construction would be helpful.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment, high attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate backhoe for excavation and backfilling.
• Assist with burial site preparation including setting plywood, excavation, grass lining and tamping.
• Operate soil hauler, tractor and trailer; read and follow lot diagrams.
• Lead services to funeral sites and assist funeral director and family at burial locations.
• Assist in mowing and trimming cemetery grounds; assist in planting and horticulture tasks.
• Maintain equipment and SOPs; work outdoors in all weather; physical tasks including lifting up to 75 pounds.

Summary/Objective

The position of Oak Hill Grounds Technician is established to perform support and assistance to the Oak Hill Grounds Team.

Primary Duties:

Customer Service – Oak Hill Cemetery

• Communication both verbal and written
• Interface with both employees and customers in-person
• Operate grounds equipment
• General maintenance of grounds areas

Grounds Technician – Oak Hill Cemetery

• Operation of backhoe (excavation and backfilling)
• Ability to assist the backhoe operator by having a complete understanding and knowledge of operating the soil hauler including adding pea fill around the vault prior to backfilling
• Ability to prepare a burial site including; setting of plywood boards, excavation, lining grave with grass and coco matting, and tamping
• Operation of tamping during backfilling
• Operation of soil hauler, tractor and trailer
• Assist with all mowing and trimming of the cemetery grounds
• Comfortable working at multiple height levels on a lift
• Ability to excavate inurnment and infant burials by hand
• Ability to do the entombment and niche inurnment process
• Maintenance and SOP’s on all equipment
• Understand and be able to read a lot diagram
• Ability to engineer a burial space, and provide third check if needed
• Assist in leading services to funeral sites
• Assist funeral director and family when arriving at the burial location
• Ability to operate the vault trailer and install a vault
• Ability to complete the installation of markers, monument foundations, and monuments

Horticulture – Oak Hill Cemetery

• Assist with mulching, pruning, and planting
• Sod installation and upkeep throughout the year.

Work Environment

This position operates outdoors in all weather conditions. The work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and reaching.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time Non-Exempt position. Business days and hours of work are: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. working every third Saturday. Must be able to work weekends as needed.

Travel

Local travel maybe required between campuses for support.
