Qualifications

  • Foundational understanding of Gas Turbines, steam systems, chillers, cooling towers, water treatment, PLC/DCS systems, mechanical systems, and basic electrical concepts.
  • Basic understanding of work orders, preventative maintenance programs, and spare parts usage.
  • Competent computer skills, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and apply technical information with guidance.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and coordinate tasks.

Job Summary

Location: San Diego, CA

This position is responsible for assisting in the operation, monitoring, and performance of routine maintenance, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, on equipment located within the Cogeneration Facility. Work is performed under the direction of the Plant Manager and/or senior Production Team Members, with results reviewed through assigned tasks, adherence to procedures, and achievement of established goals.

The Cogeneration Facility is operated and maintained by DTE San Diego Cogen, Inc., and owned by Rady Children's Hospital. The Production Team Member 3 supports the operation and maintenance of a Gas Turbine with Heat Recovery Boiler, Auxiliary Steam Boilers, Electric and Absorption Chillers, Automation Controls, and associated balance of plant equipment.

The facility generates electricity utilizing a Solar Taurus 60 Gas Turbine Generator, Heat Recovery Boiler (HRB), backup package boilers, absorption and centrifugal chillers, and associated Balance of Plant (BOP) equipment. All systems are controlled through an automated PLC-based control system utilizing Rockwell Automation hardware and software.

The Production Team Member 3 is responsible for executing assigned preventative and corrective maintenance activities and supporting overall facility operations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.

All activities within the Cogeneration Facility and Customer Complex are performed under the direction of the DTE San Diego Cogen, Inc. Plant Manager or designated senior staff.

Key Accountabilities
  • Complies with all site safety requirements and procedures; reports safety hazards and follows corrective actions as directed
  • Performs assigned operational rounds, inspections, and routine operating tasks in accordance with approved procedures
  • Assists with maintaining operating logs, records, trends, and reports required for plant operation
  • Supports contractor and visitor safety activities, including participation in safety orientations and pre-job briefs
  • Participates in site safety meetings and initiatives as directed
  • Assists with preventative and corrective maintenance activities on plant systems and equipment
  • Supports troubleshooting of operating abnormalities under guidance of senior staff
  • Assists in data gathering and documentation for incident investigations and event reports when required
  • Uses computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to execute assigned work orders and PMs
  • Maintains effective communication with Plant Management and senior Production Team Members
  • Assists with outage activities, equipment inspections, and contractor support as assigned
  • Performs physical tasks associated with plant operation and maintenance and supports scheduled and unscheduled shift coverage as required
  • Supports other departments and performs additional duties as necessary to meet plant requirements
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum of 3 years related technical experience in operations, maintenance, or an industrial environment
  • Working knowledge of plant operations and mechanical systems
  • Foundational understanding of Gas Turbines, steam systems, chillers, cooling towers, water treatment, PLC/DCS systems, mechanical systems, and basic electrical concepts
  • Basic understanding of work orders, preventative maintenance programs, and spare parts usage
  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word
  • Ability to follow written procedures and apply technical information, including drawings and schematics, with guidance
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and coordinate tasks with internal staff and external vendors
Other Qualifications

  • Exposure to instrumentation, controls, or electrical systems
  • Technical training or experience in power generation, cogeneration, or industrial facilities
