Job summary

Veolia in North America seeks an Operator to run and maintain sludge processing, dewatering, and water purification equipment at a refinery/industrial facility in Danbury, CT. The role emphasizes learning and operating pumps, engines, centrifuges, and related control devices to meet customer specifications.

Must be able to read and interpret English instructions, perform basic math, and participate in 24-hour on-call rotations as required.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and comprehend English for operating instructions and safety procedures.

• Willingness to rotate 24-hour on-call shifts if required by site.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain sludge, dewatering treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment to purify water per specifications.
• Learn and operate equipment such as pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, mixers, conveyors, blowers and related control devices.
• Work collaboratively in a team and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
• Use computer-based process control systems.

Job Description

Position Purpose

The Operator operates and maintains sludge, dewatering treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in refinery/industrial facility to purify water to meet customer specifications.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

• Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets.
• Must demonstrate ability to learn and independently operate equipment such as pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters, belt presses and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment.
• Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
• Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Some experience in a related position and environment preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions).
• Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Must be able to serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call if required by site.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training

• Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
• Must be able to pass a drug test and a criminal background check.
