Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a Kitchen Support Aide to perform a variety of kitchen tasks and deliver hospitality in patient services and the cafeteria.

Qualifications

  • Education requirement is a High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1-2 years of kitchen/food service experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for handling trays, portions and inventories.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of kitchen tasks for patient services and cafeteria.
  • Assist with preparing food for cafeteria and patient trays while meeting diets.
  • Set up dish machine and maintain sanitation standards.
  • Keep storerooms and walk-ins neat and organized; follow FIFO and HACCP procedures.
  • Provide professional customer service to patients, families, staff and physicians.

About the Job
General Summary of Position

The primary function of the Kitchen Support Aide is to perform a variety of kitchen tasks while delivering excellence in hospitality and customer services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Technical Service: Performs variety of kitchen functions for patient services and cafeteria. Organizes tools and work space for efficiency. Performs tray line according to prescribed diets and patient requests. Places selected food items on patient trays in accordance with sanitation standards and patient requests. Ensures patient food meets any special diet. Assists with preparing food for cafeteria for all assigned meals. Sets up dish machine to ensure proper dish washing handling and storage. Practices proper deliming procedures. Maintains storerooms and walk‑ins in a neat and orderly fashion. Follows first‑in‑first‑out method for rotating stock adhering to all HACCP procedures. Keeps all equipment clean and maintained after use Clears dishes trays. Cleans and sanitizes cafeteria tables. Collects and disposes of garbage left at tables and garbage containers in the cafeteria and tray return area. Cleans and sanitizes kitchen and cafeteria workstation and equipment as scheduled. May assist with stocking of supplies Sweeps and mops cafeteria servery tray return area and main kitchen between meals.
  • Customer Service: Consistently displays professionalism in dealings with patients and families staff and physicians. Promptly answers customer staff requests pleasantly and appropriately. Approach greet and offer assistance to patients family members physicians and others who may need help. Pitches in to cover shortages within department. Takes initiative to solve problems and recommends improvements of hospital procedures and intra or interdepartmental processes.
  • Development: Participates with supervisors in identifying learning needs. When learning needs are identified participates in training and development activities. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Meets all mandatory obligations.
  • Organizational knowledge: Works effectively within and between departments. Participates in departmental projects. Participates in interdepartmental activities when asked. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff supervisors and managers both inside and outside the unit.
  • Department/Unit Specific Functions and Duties: Maybe asked to work in both Nutrition Services and Cafeteria
Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
Experience
  • 1-2 years Experience preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read write speak and comprehend English.
  • Ability to follow basic written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to count and perform basic arithmetic.

USD $18.40 - USD $29.74 /Hr.
