Job summary

Franklin Cty District Wide in Frankfort, Kentucky seeks a Nutrition Program Assistant Manager for the 2026-2027 school year. The role oversees kitchen operations, assists the Manager in meal preparation and service, and ensures compliance with federal regulations and food safety standards.

The position is classified, non-exempt, on the Food Service Salary Schedule Grade FS3, with 250 days of 7.5 hours each. Starting Aug 1, 2026, salary range $15.81–$19.87 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or progress toward GED as required by Kentucky law.
• Able to understand oral and written directions.
• Ability to work with others in the organization.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in food preparation.
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions in food preparation.
• Must complete training for certification of beginning school food service personnel (702 KAR 6:045).
• Must recertify annually.

Responsibilities

• Works in the food serving line.

• Maintains proper sanitary conditions.

• Attends at least six hours of annual training plus food safety training.
• Performs all duties of Manager in their absence.

BASIC FUNCTION

Works under the direction of the School Nutrition Program Manager in the planning, preparing, and serving of the meals. Is responsible for the total operation of the kitchen as outlined for the School Nutrition Program Manager in the absence of the Manager.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Accepts major responsibility for actual cooking and preparation of meals.

Works in the food serving line.

Sees that proper standards for food quality are observed.

Helps in the maintaining of proper sanitary conditions.

Assists Manager in weighing, measuring, and mixing foods in order to comply with Federal Regulations on size of servings and quality.

Assists Manager in monthly inventory of all supplies.

Performs other cafeteria related duties as assigned by the Manager, School Nutrition Program Director or Principal.

Attends at least six (6) hours of annual continuing education/training in addition to food safety training.

Performs all duties of Manager in his/her absence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, GED certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a GED as required by Kentucky law and one year food service experience.
• Must be able to understand oral and written directions.
• Should be able to work closely with other members of the organization.
• Should have some knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in food preparation.
• Should have some knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in food preparation.
• Must complete training course for certification of beginning school food service personnel as prescribed in 702 KAR 6:045.
• Must re-certify annually.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for classified personnel.
