Florida Department of Health is seeking a Nutrition Educator to certify clients in the WIC program, provide nutrition education, counseling, and breastfeeding support in Sumter County. The role includes documenting assessments in FLWiSE and entering data into HMS and related systems, with travel to outlying clinics as needed.

The position requires a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or Dietetics and willingness to travel; experience with nutrition counseling and FLWiSE is preferred.

Formación

Working Title: NUTRITION EDUCATOR - 64029898

Certifies clients in Sumter County (Bushnell and Wildwood) for participation in the WIC program in accordance with the policies of the WIC program and regulations stated in DHM 150-24. Provides nutrition education contacts to low, high, and medically high-risk clients as defined by agency policies. May travel to outlying clinics in Marion County as needed; maintains the same client service standards in all clinics.

Provides assessment, nutrition education, counseling and breastfeeding support using approved materials and format. Assists clients in setting goals for behavioral change and evaluates client progress in meeting goals. Makes referrals as appropriate.

Correctly documents nutrition assessment and care plans in FL WiSE using SOAP or another approved format. Entries are completed the same day services are provided with the correct method, title, and user identification.

Accurately completes reports and data entry into HMS (EAR), People First, and the FL WiSE system by required deadlines using the FL WiSE manual and DHM 150-24 policies and procedures.

Participates in preparation and presentation of newsletters, bulletin boards, in-service training, and other activities as assigned by supervisor. May be required to present nutrition programs to healthcare professionals and community organizations.

Provides services to clients in an efficient manner so that clinic flow is smooth, and caseload is evenly distributed among nutrition staff. Follows established sanitation, safety practices, computer, and phone use policies.

Attends and participates in staff meetings, and professional and staff development activities. Completes required state and WIC training as evidenced by completion certificates or TRAIN transcript.

Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and theories of nutrition and dietetics as it relates to growth, development, health, and disease.
  • Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical dietary, and clinical data.
  • Ability to use various counseling and educational styles.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a computer, fax, copier, scanner, and printer.
Qualifications:

MINIMUM-

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics from an accredited college or university

Willing to travel to clinics using your own vehicle

PREFERRED-

Experience completing nutrition counseling, assessments and writing nutrition care plans
