Osage Nation is seeking a Nutrition Assistant/Aide to support FDPIR operations, assist participants with food selection, and provide basic nutrition guidance in alignment with federal and tribal guidelines.

You will help with inventory, tracking, and reporting, while promoting healthy eating and traditional foods. The role requires effective communication and the ability to work in office, warehouse, and community settings.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or coursework in Nutrition, Public Health, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working in food service, nutrition programs, or community services preferred.
  • Experience working with Tribal communities or knowledge of Native American cultures is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist participants in selecting approved USDA food items according to program guidelines.
  • Provide courteous and respectful customer service to all clients.
  • Verify participant eligibility and assist with required documentation.
  • Accurately record food distribution in inventory and participant tracking systems.
  • Support monthly food issuance and warehouse operations as needed.
  • Provide basic nutrition education and guidance aligned with USDA FDPIR guidelines.
  • Distribute educational materials, recipes, and meal planning resources.
  • Conduct or assist with cooking demonstrations, nutrition workshops, and wellness activities.
  • Encourage healthy eating habits that respect and incorporate traditional foods and cultural values.
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food inventory using FIFO methods.
  • Monitor food quality and report damaged or expired items.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with USDA FDPIR regulations and Osage Nation.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and storage standards.
  • Maintain participant files and confidentiality per Osage Nation policies.
  • Assist with data entry and monthly reporting requirements.
  • Support outreach to increase community awareness of FDPIR services.

Position Summary

The Nutrition Assistant/Aide supports the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) by assisting with client services, nutrition education, food package distribution, and program compliance. This position works directly with participants to promote healthy food choices, ensure accurate food issuance, and maintain compliance with USDA and tribal program guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
Client Services & Food Distribution
  • Assist participants in selecting approved USDA food items according to program guidelines.
  • Provide courteous and respectful customer service to all clients.
  • Verify participant eligibility and assist with required documentation.
  • Accurately record food distribution in inventory and participant tracking systems.
  • Support monthly food issuance and warehouse operations as needed.
Nutrition Education & Outreach
  • Provide basic nutrition education and guidance aligned with USDA FDPIR guidelines.
  • Distribute educational materials, recipes, and meal planning resources.
  • Conduct or assist with cooking demonstrations, nutrition workshops, and wellness activities.
  • Encourage healthy eating habits that respect and incorporate traditional foods and cultural values.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or coursework in Nutrition, Public Health, or related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of nutrition principles and healthy food preparation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse populations.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work in a warehouse environment as needed.
Certifications (Preferred or Required)
  • Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred).
Work Environment
  • Combination of office, warehouse, and community settings.
  • May require standing for extended periods and lifting food boxes.
  • Occasional evening or community event work may be required.
