Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a unit clerk to support nursing staff by transcribing orders, maintaining patient charts and coordinating admissions, transfers and discharges under a registered nurse supervision.

You will communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members while ensuring accurate data entry and orderly unit operations. This role emphasizes efficiency and detailed chart management.

Qualifications

• Education or experience in transcribing medical orders and computers required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.
• Typing/data entry skill at 45 w.p.m. preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs clerical duties related to admission, transfer and discharge, maintenance of patient activities for the records, telephone answering and unit reception.
• Communicates with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members, and outside agencies.
• Transcribes orders, schedules procedures, subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Enters and verifies patient charges within established timeframes.
• Performs tasks to promote efficient operations of the unit.
