Job summary

Saint Peter's Healthcare System in New Jersey is seeking a Nursing Unit Secretary for the Surgical Unit 3G on a per diem evening shift. The role serves as the central communication hub for the patient-care unit and supports charting, admissions and discharges.

You will maintain an organized nurses' station, handle interdepartmental communications, schedule appointments, answer call bells and a high volume of calls, and greet visitors to the unit.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and transcribe physician orders.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group of Hospital personnel, patients and visitors.
• Good communication/phone skills required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the central focus of communication for the Patient-Care Unit.
• Coordinate clerical functions of the unit, assisting with charting, admissions and discharges, etc.
• Maintain organization within Nurse's station to promote an orderly workflow.
• Receive, sort, and organize all interdepartmental communications.
• Schedule and coordinate special patient appointments with other departments as directed by Health Care Team Members within an appropriate amount of time.
• Answer call bells and assisting as appropriate.
• Answer a high volume of phone calls.
• Welcome and assist all visitors to the unit.
