Job summary

White Plains Hospital Medical Center is seeking a Nursing Technician for the night shift (6 PM–6 AM) to perform patient care and related tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Duties include vital signs, ADL support, I&O, EKGs, specimen collection, and transport within a busy hospital unit.

The position emphasizes adherence to infection control, teamwork, and ability to function in a high-stress environment. BLS certification is required or to be obtained within 6 months.

• Ability to move about the department and hospital.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient care activities such as ADLs, vital signs, I&O, EKGs, documentation and dressing changes.
• Assist with meals, activities, transportation, specimens, and routine tasks under RN direction.
• Support nursing staff in procedures, monitoring, and patient safety.
• Maintain infection control practices and care for patients with diverse needs.

Job Summary

The Nursing Technician performs patient care and non-patient care functions within their scope of practice under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.

Duties include but are not limited to ADL's, vital signs, I&O, performing EKGs, documentation of vital signs and I & O, simple dressing changes, specimen collection, assisting with meals, errands, transporting of patients, medications, or specimens, ambulating of patients, urinary drainage care (indwelling, external and suprapubic), assists with colostomy care, applies binders, weighs patients, assists health care providers with procedures and physical exams, and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

7. Collaborates and communicates with the health care team.
8. Completes competency requirements.
9. Attends mandatory in-services.
10. Attends staff meetings as required/ requested.
11. Utilizes cost containment practices.
12. Adheres to all WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and submission of annual physical.
13. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Required or GED Required less than 1 year Previous experience in hospital or with patient care preferred

Preferred Nursing Technicians that will be trained to read the monitors require the 4-day EKG class Required

Must be able to move about the department and hospital constantly while attending to needs of patients, visitors, and staff.

BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association

Nursing Technicians must have their BLS upon hire or obtain within 6 months within 180 Days Required
